Subject: McCaffrey Report on Mexico

Intercessors,
The attachment is a very realist assessment of the situation in Mexico. At the moment, we are in Cancun, Mexico; thought to be a very safe place for tourists--at least. I think for the moment it is relatively safe here; however, I spoke at a Mexican church on Friday evening and I was on a bus alone at night and carefully watching those around me. I didn't really feel threatened by anything, but I rode into Cancun city (which is out of the hotel zone) and waited for my friend to pick me up.
An incident happened to this same Christian friend of mine recently, which gives pause for thought. You may have heard me refer to Rossy at some time or another. I help support a small ministry of hers down here. She helps single unwed mothers try to support themselves--and teach them the Gospel while doing so.
Rossy has a very small apartment in Cancun, but a larger house where the ministry is housed in a city outside of Cancun called Bonfil. It is extremely poor and apparently now filled with crime. The Mexican government established Bonfil to house the workers they brought in from over Mexico to built the city of Cancun. The city was carved out of the jungle beginning around 1970 for American and European tourists. We first saw Cancun in 1980 when there was really not much here. It has grown to well over a million people.
The incident occurred about four months ago. Her daughter was involved with a man of whom Rossy did not approve. She didn't know why, just didn't think it was a good thing. She was almost in Bonfil one afternoon to see about the ministry and received a telephone call to return to Cancun and help out a friend. She turned around and just about 10 minutes later she received another call from her daughter in Bonfil hysterically crying and relating that there had been a shooting in front of her house. Two women were killed and one child who were just walking down the street, and they kidnapped this "questionable" boy friend and he has not been heard from since. Rossy doesn't know what or why, but suspects he was dealing in drugs. If Rossy had not been called back into the city, she would have been in this midst of this calamity.
She says that the gangs and drug cartels are invading all the cities and towns of Mexico. This article by Gen McCaffrey brings this very close to home.
There are so many problems facing the US in the coming years, but the Mexican government cannot control the crime and the cartels. Apparently, we are not giving them much help. This current Mexican president was certainly the best of the two candidates and deserves our help. Our border cities are not safe and if it is not stopped--by force--this cancerous violence will spread into the US--if it already hasn't. It seems that most of the politicians want to put this on the back burner. This article will shock you. This is another good reason why we should not want The North American Union. There would be no stopping the drug runners and cartels. This article sent to us by (Ret.) General Max Bunyard.
PRAY FOR THE USA.
Blessings, Mary
